Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 6/1/2026

Andy brings us the forecast this week. We are coming off high water and 8" of rain that ended last week. Right now our mountain streams are in excellent condition, the spring creeks are full, that state stocked waters are running around average flow, and the bass and musky fishing are prime on the larger warm water rivers. Mountain brook trout anglers should have green drakes, little yellow stones to match hatching insects but you can fish any larger attractor dry fly and size 12 attractor nymphs as a dropper. Streamers in size 8-10 are working really well for bigger brookies right now. Tricos are hatching in the mornings on the spring creeks. We probably have around another week of drakes hatching fairly thick in the evening hours. Beetles will start emerging soon so we are just weeks away from terrestrial season. Fish your streamers during low light periods and on overcast days too! The streamer fishing will be good while we have these higher water flows. The South Fork Shenandoah, James, and New are in great shape for bass and musky fishing right now. Andy stuck a number of big musky on the New on Sunday. We have boats out all week bass fishing so stay tuned for updates on the bass and carp fishing! Enjoy these picture perfect conditions while we have the water and keep doing your rain dances so we can  continue on this trend into the summer months!
