Welcome to Mossy Creek Fly of the Week!
This week we honor the NEW Umpqua Prince Jig Nymph.
This pattern has already earned a top spot in our guide fly
boxes and for good reason. Anyone who trout fishes has at the very
least heard of a prince nymph. You will find them in just about
every fly shop around the world because they just plain catch fish.
So how can you improve upon an already productive pattern??? Well,
put it on a jig hook with a tunsten bead! The 90 degree jig hook
helps the hook point ride up resulting in fewer snags along the
bottom. It also rides and swims more naturally in the water, moving
very much like a struggling nymph. The tungsten head on the fly
helps it get down quickly to your target depth. We field tested
these flies on Beaver Creek about 1 month ago and beat up the fish
so bad we almost felt guilty. As you can see this is a true
standard prince nymph tied upside down on a barbless extra wide gap
jig hook. The jig hooks, and slotted tungsten beads are available
for purchase at the fly shop. Currently we offer Umpqua's new Jig
Flies in 3 flavors, Prince, Hare's Ear, and Pheasant Tail. Click

JIG PRINCE, or
JIG HARES EAR, or
JIG PHEASANT TAIL.
We are proud to stock flies from the most reputable fly
companies in the world. Umpqua, Orvis, Montana Fly Company,
Rainy's, and more. We take pride in hand selecting the best quality
patterns from each company. It is very important that we offer our
customers THE BEST possible patterns at the most competitive
prices. For example, we know which company ties the best adams
parachutes, prince nymphs, hare's ears, or even a woolly bugger.
What makes them the best? #1 We make sure they can withstand a ton
of abuse. Nothing is worse than buying flies just to have them fall
apart after a few fish. #2 They fish well(meaning they float, or
sink, or swim properly right out of the fly bin). #3 Quality
control and quality materials. We want all of our patterns to be as
close to identically perfect as possible so no one worries about
having the perfect fly for the perfect presentation when they head
out fishing. We hope you will enjoy this page as we pay tribute to
the creators and manufacturer's of some of our favorite fly
patterns.
