Back Creek Delayed Harvest
Back Creek is located in a very rugged mountain setting west of the Jackson River
near the West Virginia line in Bath County. Most Virginia anglers forego this stream
as they don’t drive the extra 20 minutes past the Jackson to get there. This keeps
fishing pressure to a minimum on this river. The stream is about 25 feet in width
with moderate gradient and excellent fly fishing opportunities. The stream has been
extensively reconstructed to improve trout habitat by Dominion Virginia Power, who
constructed a pump storage facility just upstream. The land adjacent to this stream
section is managed for recreation by Dominion Virginia Power. In addition to trout
fishing, the area offers a campground, picnic pavilion, outdoor games and two warm
water lakes for fishing and swimming.
